Quantum VS Help: File Maintenance |
Customer Product Break Maintenance enables the creation and maintenance of records holding quantity or weight break discounts for a Customer (or group of Customers) when buying a certain Product (or group of Products).
Customer Product Break records cross reference a Product (or Product Group or Price Group) with a Customer (or Customer Class). Each record has a break table defining quantities or weights of a Product a Customer needs to buy in order to qualify for discount. Alternatively the breaks table may point a Customer to different Price Bands.
Note: For further details see Price Maintenance.
Customer Product Break records share certain characteristics with Discount Matrix records and Special Price records. However, neither Discount Matrix records and Special Price records can be used to apply discounts based on the quantity or weight of a Product purchased.
In theory you may set up Quantity Breaks for a Product in the Product record - see Creating Quantity Breaks. For example, you might set up the following break discounts for the Product 'Acme Spanner' (stocked singly):
when buying 0 to 4 units: discount is 0 %
when buying 5 to 9 units: discount is 3%
when buying 10 to 19 units: discount is 5%
when buying 20 units or more: discount is 10%
Therefore, when ANY Customer buys 10 Acme Spanners they will receive a 5% discount.
By using Customer Product Break records, however, you may set up different Product Quantity Break discounts for different Customers.
Example: you create two Customer Product Break records for the Product 'Acme Spanner'. In the first, for Customer X, the break discounts are as above. In the second, for Customer Y, the break discounts are as follows:
when buying 0 to 9 units: discount is 0%
when buying 10 to 25 units: discount is 4%
when buying 25 units or more: discount is 7%
Therefore Customer X only needs to buy 5 Acme Spanners to qualify for a discount, whereas Customer Y must buy 10. The number of Acme Spanners required for purchase and the discounts offered also differ between Customers X and Y.
Additional Customer Product Break options include the ability to:
apply discounts by weight, rather than quantity;
apply discounts from, to or between certain dates only;
make the record apply to a specific Branch only; and
link the break quantities/weights to Price Bands.

User Permissions may be switched on or off for the current session only by selecting Tools > User Permissions from the Toolbar - Main Menu to display the Edit User Session Permissions Window (requires supervisor permissions). Check the boxes to allow permissions to the relevant application functions, then click OK. The procedure is similar to that used when Creating Roles.
Note: Newly-created User Permissions are typically not set for a User when upgrading to a new release of Quantum VS.
