Finder: Standard Search Method

The Finder allows you to find, open and view the details of any type of document/record.

The basic steps are:

1.      Make the required document or record type active in the Finder. See:

Note: See Records Available In The Finder to see a list of document/record types available, with specific tips on searching for each document/record type.

At this stage you may view details of your selected documents/records in the Finder and if necessary:

2.      Browse through documents/records listed in the Finder to find the appropriate document/record. See Browsing Records In The Finder.

3.      Search for a specific record (without having to browse through pages of records). See Searching For A Specific Record In The Finder.

4.      Once you have found the appropriate record you may open it from the Finder. See Opening Documents From The Finder.

For example, say you wish to find the customer record of 'J Kelsall Builders Merchants'. You would first make Customers active in the Finder. You may then browse through the customers listed in the Finder's search results page by page, or search specifically for that customer. When you can see the customer 'J Kelsall Builders Merchants' listed in the Finder's search results you may then open the customer record, or add that customer's details to an open document, such as a Sales Order.

Note: Rather than using your mouse, it is possible to use your keyboard to activate the required record type in the Finder, browse records in the Finder, then open the record in a new tab or add it to an open document. See Using Keyboard Shortcuts With The Finder.

Note: The Finder's Advanced features offer additional search facilities, enabling you to change the sequence of results in the Finder and also filter the records displayed. See Finder: Advanced Searching.
