Quantum VS Help: File Maintenance |
Product 'batch traceability' - also known as batch tracking - refers to the Quantum VS system's ability to classify stock by a batch reference, serial number and/or bin location. This enables goods to be tracked within the warehouse following receipt into stock, within the company if it is moved between branches, and afterwards when it is sold.
Any stock of a product flagged for 'batch traceability' is assigned a batch reference, serial number and/or bin location when it is received into stock on a Goods Received Note.
'Batch traceability' as discussed in this document may refer to either - or both - of the following:
Any incoming stock assigned a Bin Location may subsequently be tracked within the warehouse/retail premises according to the bin location where the goods are held. This is useful when you are operating a WMS (warehouse management system) which processes the movement and storage of materials and records the position and numbers of items in the warehouse.
Any incoming stock assigned a Batch Number or Serial Number may be tracked when it leaves the warehouse - because it is sold, or transferred to another branch - as the Batch Number or Serial Number details are recorded on the document. This is useful when you stock goods which:
may need to be recalled, perhaps because of health and safety issues;
are manufactured in batches (e.g. paint);
have a finite shelf life (e.g. food); or
must be strictly controlled and administered (e.g. medical products).
