Timber Details Tab: Viewing Timber, Sheet And Pack Product Details

If the Product is defined as a Timber, Sheet or Pack Product its timber-related details are listed here.

Note: This tab is shown only if the Product is defined as a Timber, Sheet or Pack Product. Timber, Sheet and Pack Products are defined by selecting appropriate details within the Main tab when setting up a new Product record. See Creating Timber, Sheet And Pack Products.

To view Timber, Sheet And Pack Product details:

1.      Find and open the Product record for the required Product. See Finding Products.

2.      Select the Timber Details tab:

These fields show the following:

Field

Definition

Timber Details

Size 1 / Size 2 (mm - Nominal / Actual)

This section shows the section size of the timber product in millimetres. Either Nominal or Actual sizes may be shown.

The Nominal size is the 'described as' size of the timber product, but this may differ from the 'actual' size. For example, a product may be described as being 50 x 100 (nominal) when it is really only 47 x 98 (actual).

Variable Section Sizes

For variable section sizes (e.g. hardwood products) values of zero will be shown in one or both of the size fields. This allows the operator to specify the size(s) at sales order entry - by entering values into the Size 1/2 fields under the Options tab of the Timber Entry window:

For further details on adding timber products to sales documents see Adding Timber Products To Sales Documents.

Statistics Update

This field shows the unit of measure the Product is stocked in (e.g. Volume, Length, Pieces), followed by a number in brackets. This is a fixed measure.

For example, if the Statistics Update field shows Volume (m3) (1), then stock statistics for the product are updated by volume in single pieces.

Treatment Number

If treatments are to be added to the timber/sheet product, the treatment group is shown here. During sales order entry the correct treatments for this product are displayed for the user to apply.

This field is used for associating the product with a timber treatment group so that the user may select from a range of possible timber treatments to apply when the timber product is added to a sales document.

The product's timber treatment group - if set up - is displayed here.

Note: For further details see Treatments Maintenance.

Presentation Flag

The presentation flag for timber is used to control the pricing and display of timber lines on orders and invoices. One of the following options will be displayed:

  • Lump Sum: Detailed Unit Prices and Detailed Line Values (A)

  • Lump Sum: Detailed Unit Prices and Total Value (B)

  • Lump Sum: Total Value Only (C)

  • Combined: Detailed Unit Prices and Total Value (D)

  • Combined: Total Value Only (E)

  • Combined Treatment: Detailed Unit Prices and Detailed Line Values (F)

  • Combined Treatment: Detailed Unit Prices and Total Value (G)

  • Combined Treatment: Total Value Only (H)

Each menu option represents a different combination of timber Price Options and Presentation Options, which are defined as follows:

Price Option

Definition

Lump Sum

For each detail line use the line unit price to calculate the line amount.

Combined

Calculate a total unit price for the order by dividing the total order amount by the total order quantity. Use the new total unit price to calculate a total order amount.

Note: Quantum VS will indicate that the 'new' total order amount on the summary line is different from the original order amount with an asterisk (*).

Combined Treatment

Calculate a total treatment cost per unit of timber ordered. Add the treatment cost to the line unit price and use this to calculate a line amount.

Presentation Option

Definition

Detailed Unit Prices and Detailed Line Values

Per detail line display all unit prices and amounts.

Note: This option is not valid with Price Option 2 - as this pricing option does not calculate detail line amounts.

Detailed Unit Prices and Total Value

Per detail line display all unit prices. Only display the total order amount.

Total Value Only

Per detail line do not display unit prices or line amounts. Only display the total order amount.

Long Length Surcharge

This field displays the long length surcharge category which applies to this timber product.

Long length surcharges may be set up for a range of lengths for various timber categories using Long Length Surcharges Maintenance.

This field is used for associating the product with a long length surcharge group so that the user may select from a range of possible long length surcharges to apply when the timber product is added to a sales document.

No. of Ex Per Section

This field shows the number of pieces a piece of timber will be divided into when cut diagonally along its length.

For example, a value of 1 (i.e. 1 piece of timber) = no cuts; a value of 2 (i.e. 2 pieces of timber) = one diagonal cut; a value of 4 (i.e. 4 pieces of timber) = two diagonal cuts, forming an 'X'.)

No. in Bundle

If timber sections are to be packed as bundles, the number of pieces to be packed in each bundle will be shown here.

Stock Control Level

This field shows the stock control format for the product. This defines whether the product is classed as a Timber, Sheet or Pack product. The following values are available:

Stock Control Level Option

Definition

None

Do not set a stock control flag.

Stock as per Statistical Update

Stock as per Statistics Update means that stock is recorded by Volume, Length or Pieces (as defined in the Per field in the Prices section of the Main tab/header - see Creating Timber, Sheet And Pack Products).

Stock may alternatively be recorded at one of the following levels:

Stock by Sheet

For use with Sheet products (timber products stocked as sheets). Records multiple length details and total volume, total length and total pieces.

Stock by Tally Length

For use with products stocked by length. This will record a single length tally specification. Volume, length and pieces will be recorded at the 'total' level.

Stock by Pack Tally

For use with products stocked as packs. Records quantities/tallies of timber according to each length of timber (e.g. 3m). For further details see Pack Maintenance.

Stock by Pack

For use with products stocked as packs. Records multiple length details and total volume, total length and total pieces. For further details see Pack Maintenance.

Attributes

Attributes are simply spare analysis codes for use with timber products.  A six digit code can be entered here which can be used with a report generator such as Xtract.

Length Mask

Length Masks are used with length stock-controlled products (i.e. timber) to specify the available lengths in which the product may be sold (e.g. 1m; 1.6m; 2.4m etc.). For example: you may have one set of standard metric length masks, one set of length masks purely for fencing products, and another set of length masks for MDF products.

This field shows which set of length masks will apply for this product. For example: if it is a Fencing product - i.e. the product will be sold in lengths applicable to Fencing products - Fencing may be displayed.

For further details see Creating Timber, Sheet And Pack Products.

Wide Width Surcharge

A Wide Width Surcharge (similar to a Long Length Surcharge) may be applied to timber products where what is being sold is wider than normal. If it applies to this product the amount will be displayed here.

Works Order Required

If checked, this field allows users to use the (optional) Works Order Processing module, used in cases where the timber product being sold has to be cut from another piece of timber (i.e. not just sawn to length). For further details contact Quantum Professional Services on 01342 333807 or psg@edp.co.uk

Pack Costs

If this field is checked, pack costs are used to calculate branch average cost. This may be useful if you are creating packs from the timber product (see Pack Maintenance).

Grade

Free text may be entered to describe the quality of the timber product.
