Quantum VS Help: File Maintenance |
A Special Price is a special discounted price that has been created for a specific Product (or Product range or Price Group) and Customer (or Customer Site or Customer Class). Special Prices might be created as an incentive to get a certain customer (or customers) to buy a certain product (or products).
These details are held in Special Price records. When a qualifying Customer/Site orders a Product for which a Special Price exists, the system will present this 'special' discounted price rather than the standard line price.
Note: Quantum VS will, by default, present the 'best price' it can calculate. This may not necessarily be the saved Special Price, depending on other available price/discount criteria.
Special Prices may be Branch-specific - meaning only that particular Branch may offer the Special Price to the specified Customer - or may apply across all Branches. Typically, a Special Price applies only for a certain period of time and may be reviewed and edited/deleted when appropriate. The Price Book Period End process can be used to delete special prices which have passed their Review Date.
Special Prices may be generated in the following ways:
A Special Price record may be created from scratch within Special Price Maintenance. See Creating A New Special Price Record
Alternatively, a Sales Clerk may create 'fixed' (Type 1) Special Prices - which apply to a specific product and customer - from within a sales document (Sales Order, Quote, Sales Enquiry or Sales Contract). See Creating Special Prices From A Sales Document.
Special Prices may also be copied from one Customer Account to another using the Copy Special Prices Process. See Copy Special Prices.
The main way of listing, viewing and accessing Special Price records is using the Special Prices Finder. See Finding Special Price Records.
When a sales document (Sales Order, Quote, Sales Enquiry or Sales Contract) is open, the Sales Clerk can check to see if Special Prices exist for the current Customer and Product line:
By clicking the icon to the right of the Product line to view price and stock details for that product - Special Prices are displayed below. See Viewing Price And Stock Details For A Product.
By clicking the Special Prices tab within the Line Pricing (Negotiation) window, when negotiating line prices/discounts with a customer. See Special Prices Tab.
For further details see Viewing A Special Price Record.
The way in which special prices are applied, and the manner in which existing discounts and prices are overridden, will depend on the Type of Special Price created. Click the links for further details:
Fixed Price (Type 1): To apply discounts to a selected product for a specified Customer Account/Branch/Site.
Note: Fixed Price (Type 1) Special Prices may also be generated from within a sales document. See Creating Special Prices From A Sales Document: Overview.
The following options can be used to apply a Special Price to a range of Products for a specified Customer:
Override Matrix Discounts (Type 2): To apply up to two discounts to a range of products for a specified Customer Account/Branch/Site, overriding any prices/discounts applied by the Discount Matrix.
Discount Against Sell Price (Type 3): To apply up to two discounts to the selling price of a range of products for a specified Customer Account/Branch/Site, overriding all other discounts/breaks.
Cost Plus Percentage (Type 4): To apply a percentage to the cost price of a range of products in order to calculate the final selling price for a specified Customer Account/Branch/Site (i.e. selling price = cost price + percentage). Two further discounts may also be added. This will override any other discounts/breaks.
Discount Against Regulated Sell (Type 5): Similar to Type 3 (above), except the Regulator discount is included with the selling price before the discounts are applied.
The following option can be used to apply a Special Price to a particular Price Group for a specified Customer:
Matrix Exceptions (Type 6): To apply discounts to a selected Price Group for a specified Customer Account/Branch/Site, which will override any discounts specified by the Discount Matrix for that customer/price group combination.
The following options can be used to apply a Special Price to a range of Products for a specified Customer Class:
Product Matrix Discounts By Customer Class (Type 7): Similar to Type 2 (above), except the discounts apply to a whole Customer Class rather than a specified Customer.
Fixed Price By Customer Class (Special Price Type 8): Similar to Type 1 (above), except the discounts apply to a whole Customer Class rather than a specified Customer. There is the ability to apply the Special Price to a currency which is not the main system currency.
